Veitch, William George (b. 28 Dec 1909, d. 28 Jun 1950)
Note: On 10 June 1941 when married to Phyllis, living at Violet Avenue, Yeronga Qld and working as a tyre fitter, Bill joined the Australian Army [Q90864] having already been a member of the Citizen Forces. He was stationed in Brisbane, working in
Transport Workshops, was transferred to Toowoomba in 1942 where he enlisted in the AIF on 23 January 1943 [QX 47789]. Listed as Next of Kin was his mother Phyllis Veitch, Violet Avenue, Yeronga, Brisbane.



Corporal in 1943. Sailed to Milne Bay on 'John Jacob Astor' in November 1943. Sergeant in December 1943. Returned to Townsville on 'Tanoona' March 1944, then to Lae on 'Van Heutz' in August 1944, then to Milne Bay on 'Ormiston' July 1945, then
Brisbane, then Cairns September 1945.



Almost a month in hospital at Lae early in 1945 and a fortnight in hospital at Cairns in late 1945.



Discharged 1 February 1946.

Mrs P.Veitch and family are respectfully informed of the death of her husband, their father, William George Veitch, Swann Road, Taringa, 2nd AIF. Funeral to.......Mt Thompson Crematorium.

Veitch, Donald Andrew (b. 21 Aug 1915, d. 18 Jan 1941)
Note: Born on 21 August 1915 at Brisbane Qld.



On 13 May 1940 while living at Violet Avenue, Yeronga, and working as a Garage Hand, he enlisted as Air Crew in the RAAF [404316]'. Listed as Next of Kin was his father, George Veitch, Fitter, 2 Railway Street, Petersham, Sydney.



L.A.C.Veitch died on 18 January 1941 when his plane crashed 8 miles south of Goodna Qld while he was training as a Pilot. Eye-witnesses say the machine dived out of the clouds almost vertically, with the engine racing.....Pieces of the engine
were buried in a crater 12 feet long and four feet deep......

Hundreds of people lined Adelaide Street as the funeral of LAC Donald Andrew Veitch passed through the city yesterday.... Chief mourners were the airman's mother and father Mr and Mrs G.B.Veitch and brother and sister-in-law Mr and Mrs
W.Veitch.......Buried at South Brisbane cemetery.

Sailed from Sydney 27 December 1940, arrived at the Middle East 31 January 1941. Arrived back in Australia March 1942, transferred to 126 Australian General Transport Coy and sailed for Port Moresby on 'Henry Allen' in July 1943, was in Lae in
1944, then on 'Acongagua' for Bougainville October 1944, then Townsville on 'Ormiston' in March 1945.



Discharged on 4 August 1945 in Brisbane Qld.
