Note: Hugh McTaggart was only 4 years of age when he landed with his family in Brisbane from Scotland on the Jessie Munn on 1 February 1862. In about 1867 the family moved to Gympie [gold was discovered there that year]. Hugh's father died in 1868.



21 years of age when he married Sarah Jane Browne on 26 December 1878, Hugh fathered five children - Edward Matthew, Thomas Robert, Annie Margaret, Charles John Robertson and Ellen Elizabeth. He died on 25 August 1890 at Gympie aged 32 years.
