Grand and aged 89 years at time of writing in 1996.
Subsequent searching has disclosed some more detail about the Le Grand families.
William Le Grand was born in Germany, moved to France and later, as a Hughenot, migrated to England. He married Mary Harvey at St Marks, Kennington, London on 23 May 1833.
1861 England Census shows William Le Grand, Gentleman, aged 67 years [1794], living at 6 Woodbine Row, Westhampshire, with wife Mary aged 56 yers [1845], and sons Robert aged 27 years [1834] and Alfred aged 17 years [1844]. Birth Places are
shown as "Not known, Middlesex". Alfred's occupation appears as "Clerk, Steamship Co".
In 2007 a copy of a Diary written by Robert Le Grand concerning a holiday tour he made in 1865 from London through France and Germany and return, came to hand.A section concerning a visit to Munich on 16 June 1865 reads in part "After dinner Max Junior and I went to Nurnphenburg to see the King's palace where my Papa was brought up....... My father was William Le Grand son of John Le Grand..."
Another Diary entry under date of 18 June 1865 during the visit to Munich read "This day 50 years the battle of Waterloo was fought. I must not forget that as Papa was there to the last, he always takes a pleasure in relating some details of the war, which is very interesting."

Note: Charles Robert Summerhayes was an Architect/Developer. Credit has gone to him being connected with the subdivision of Eastwood, Sydney, east of the railway line in1903 and development of Eastwood's shopping areas over many years.
"Important Buildings" credited to and owned by him include some shops built in Rowe Street, Eastwood and a beautiful home at Trelawney Street called "Womerah", an aboroginal word meaning throwing stick.
He was a councillor in Ryde 1906-08, 1913-14, 1916-17 and 1921-23. He was Mayor of Ryde in 1911-12 and 1922.
