Note: Percy Hale Sheaffe arrived in NSW from England on 18 August 1834 accompanying his parents. The family moved to Norfolk Island in 1837, returned to NSW in 1838 then settled on farm land at Dapto. After schooling at Wollongong he commenced
working on the farm then undertook some surveying then spent some time on the goldfields at Turon and Braidwood NSW and the Ovens District in Victoria where he had quite some success.
In 1857 PHS purchased land at Yatte Yattah, a few miles north of Milton NSW, where he established a dairy farm which he named "Waterfall Farm" and lived there until his death in 1913. Besides being a successful dairy farmer PHS was a
migistrate and Coroner. His other interest was in the military, initiating the NSW Volunteer Movement at Milton in 1856 and proceeding to Captain of the Volunteer Rifles in 1868.
On 25 April 1859 PHS married Hannah Maria Ashmore at Trinity Church, Sydney. She was a daughter of Captain Ashmore and was born in Mauritius. It is rumoured she was of Indian or Island descent and while this has not been proved "many of the
descendants of this couple have dark complections with Indian features".
Children born to this couple were -
William Ashmore 1860, Rosalie Emily 1861, Alfred Percy 1863, Agnes Talbet 1865, in the late 1890s she moved to Northern NSW and was housekeeper for her elder brother William Ashmore until she married George Frederick Martin in 1899,
Roger 1866, Henry Percy 1868, Ellen 1869, Elizabeth Throsby 1871, George 1874.
Hannah Maria Sheaffe died on 20 August 1888.
Percy Hale Sheaffe died on 1 June 1913.
Both were buried near the homestead of the Yatte Yattah farm.
These are only brief extracts from Stephen Sheaffe's book.
The Sheaffe Family Tree now continues through Agnes Talbet Sheaffe and her descendants.

Note: A copy of The Sheaffe Family History, written in 1988 by Stephen Sheaffe, is held by Anne W.E.Hampstead. In it the author concludes that his ancestors left Flanders and settled in England prior to 1500. He has constructed his Family Tree from
-
Ancestor 1 - Thomas Sheffe, probably born in Cranbrook, Kent in about 1470, married Alice Hendley in 1496. They had 6 children, all born in Cranbrook. The Tree then traces the following descendants, all born in Kent, with changes in spelling of
surnames -
Ancestor 2 - Richard Sheffe, born 1505, Cranbrook
Ancestor 3 - Thomas Sheaf, born 1532, Cranbrook
Ancestor 4 - Edmund Sheaf, baptised 1560, Kent
Ancestor 5 - Thomas Sheafe, born 1587, Kent
Ancestor 6 - John Sheafe, baptised 1629, Kent
Ancestor 7 - is described as William Sheaf, parentage and place of birth uncertain but possibly son of Ancestor 6. Married 3 times a son William was born on 3 February 1683 to second wife Mary.
Ancestor 8 - William Sheaf, baptised 1688, Suffolk Church
Ancestor 9 - William Sheaf, baptised 1770, Trinity Church, Boston
Ancestor 10 - William Sheaffe, baptised 1800, Dublin
It is here that the Tree and History moves to Australia. In 1819 William Sheaffe became an Ensign in the 50th Regiment, then Lieutenant in 1822. In 1825 he married Rosalie Danvers Earle; children born were Mary Susan 1826, William Lempriere
Frederick 1827 and Percy Hale 1832. The 50th Regiment moved to NSW arriving on the Surrey on 18 August 1834.
After service in Sydney and Wollongong Lieutenant Sheaffe moved to Norfolk Island in 1837, back to NSW in 1838, retired as Captain in 1841 and settled at Dapto as a farmer.
He died on 17 December 1860 aged 59 years.
Besides the 3 children born at the Isle of Wight and Ireland, the following were born in NSW -
Roger Hale 1837 , Emily Margaret 1839 , George Henry 1841 , Rosabird 1843 , Ellen Frederica 1845 , Agnes 1847.
After William's death in 1860 his wife Rosalie returned to England where she died at Addelstone on 7 July 1883.
These are only brief extracts from Stephen Sheaffe's Book of 140 pages.
The Sheaffe Family Tree now continues through Percy Hale Sheaffe and his descendants.
