Brown 2, Gaius Frederick (b. 7 Mar 1861, d. 22 Feb 1899)

Note: Gaius Frederick Brown was born at Bushey Heath, Bushey, Hertfordshire, England on 11 March 1861 to Gaius Brown [a Master Rake Maker or Wood Turner] and Eleanor Harris. Further ancestory on the Brown side is unknown but Eleanor Harris's parents
were Joseph and Mary.

Gaius Frederick Brown settled in Queensland in about 1882 or 1883 and on 16 September 1885 he married Margaret McQuaker at Ipswich. They had five boys and three girls, of which five were born in Ipswich then three in Gympie to which town the
family had moved in about 1893. Two of the sons died in infancy and another was Killed In Action during World War I. Handwritten Family Trees for The Brown and McQuaker families are held as separate records.

Gaius Brown's occupation at the time of his death at Gympie on 22 February 1899 at age only 37 years was Painter. He was buried in grave No 10 in the Methodist Private portion of Gympie cemetery. His son-in-law Thomas Edward Selwood, who died
on 12 June 1919 at age 34 years, was buried in the same grave site on 14 June of that year. The grave does not have a headstone.

Bird 2, Louis (b. 1862, d. 26 Jan 1925)
Note: Louis Bird's Death Certificate shows that he died at Grafton NSW on 26 January 1925, occupation Farmer, usual residence Whiporie [a small rural community between Grafton and Casino], age 64 years, 42 years in NSW, born at Montreal, Canada,
married at Sunny Corner via Lithgow when aged 23 years.

A record of marriage at Uniting Church Archives shows Louis Bird, Smelter, Sunny Corner, aged 23 years, parents Louis Bird and Mary Kennedy, married 27 October 1885 Jane Dowling, Spinster, Mudgee Road, aged 20 years, parents George Dowling,
Labourer and Harriet Freestone. The marriage was at Tarana, near Oberon.

The Marriage Certificate shows Louis Bird's place of residence as Mitchell, the place of marriage as Wesleyan Church, Mitchell [substituted for the word Bathurst.].

Sunny Corner, Mudgee Road, Tarana and Mitchell are all in the general Bathurst area.

Children born to this couple were -

William L., born 1886 at East Macquarie [location not known], died 1890 at Bungendore [near Queanbeyan].

Emily, born 1888 in NSW, died 1889 at Bungendore.

Florence Mary, born 1891 at Broken Hill, married in 1909 at Casino while living at Whiporie, died in Sydney.

Ethel May, born 1893 at Wattle Flat [near Sunny Corner], married in 1913 at Casino [probably living at Whiporie], died in NSW.

Annie L., born 1896 at Wattle Flat, married in 1917 at Casino [probably living at Whiporie], died in NSW.

George Wilfred, born 1898 at Wattle Flat, married in 1923 at Camira Creek [adjacent to Whiporie where it is known he was residing], died at Casino in 1950.

Louis Arthur, born 1904 at Sunny Corner, died in 1948 at Morisset [was known to have been living at Whiporie].

Dorothy L., born 1910 at Lismore, married at Camira Creek [was known to be living at Whiporie], died in 1985 at Casino.

From the above it has been assumed that Louis Bird was born in 1861 or 1862, came to NSW in 1882 when 20 years of age, married at age 23 years when his occupation was Smelter, living at Sunny Corner/Wattle Flat/Mitchell in the Bathurst area.
It seems he and his wife moved to East Macquarie [location unknown] where their first child was born in 1886, their second in 1888 and both died at Bungendore, near Queanbeyan, in 1890 and 1889 respectively.

Broken Hill was the birth place of the third child in 1891, then back to the Bathurst area for the birth of 4 children between 1893 and 1904 at Wattle Flat and Sunny Corner. Next was a marriage of Florence Mary in 1909, at Casino, while the
family was living at Whiporie. The couple's 8th child was registered as having been born at Lismore in 1910 at which time the family's place of residence would have been Whiporie.

Louis Bird's Death Certificate records his occupation as Farmer in 1925 and place of residence as Whiporie. It is known that he and his wife were also involved in retail trade at Whiporie, conducting the only country store in that small rural
centre. After Louis' death that shop was taken over by his son George Wilfred who continued to trade there until he sold out in 1946 and left the district. This terminated the Bird family's association with Whiporie which had extended over a
period of about 40 years.
